"Wishful Thinking" by Orla Murphy (Jazz Artist from London, England)

Orla Murphy's debut Jazz album goes by the name of "Wishful Thinking." This is an album that features Murphy's creamy smooth voice with mostly 3 piece accompaniments, playing a collection of mellow Jazz standards as well as Jazz-interpretations of well known songs. In the song, "Fragile" Murphy sings alongside an acoustic guitar in a relaxed and simple, yet deep and emotional sentiment. In "The Old Country" her voice interplays solely with the upright bass and drums in a smooth yet peppy Jazz number. In the track, "Be Cool" Murphy sings with a remarkable cadence in a playful and toe-tapping piece. This album is one that features classic Jazz and a highly talented voice and lets the talents of the musicians flow with style and grace. If you are a fan of simple and velvety Jazz, or maybe just want something mellow and comforting to listen to around the fireplace, then you should hear the album "Wishful Thinking" by Orla Murphy.

"I Stand Alone" by No Phear (Reggae Artost from New York(NY))

"I Stand Alone" by up and coming Reggae/Dancehall artist No Phear is very fitting for the modern, more urban turn that both the Reggae and Dancehall genres are making these days. This album makes use of fresh Hip-Hop beats while the artist raps in his native Jamaican dialect or patois. The deep and slow track "Mama Love" is inspired by the artist's mother and while it is very emotional, it sticks to the solid beats. "Da Wah Dah" is a very danceable dancehall track featuring artists Marlon and Pink Bling that will make the listener want to play it over and over again because of its catchy hook. "Eyez On Me" is another dancehall tune, reminiscent of Sean Paul, that makes an innovative use of voice machine effects over a progressive beat; it's impossible to not move at least one part of your body when this track on. The Reggae and Dancehall styles are transforming and this album is a prime, well-done example of that. Warning! This album contains Explicit Content.

Papasean Johnson's new CD "Movin' On" review Rogue Agent

"Movin' On" Down the Rock and Roll Road
PapaSean Johnson finds a way to railroad the blues into rock and roll.

Growth and creativity are demonstrated by prolific output and PapaSean Johnson doesn't disappoint with the second album from the pen of Sean Poluk.
The addition of a live bass, kicking drums and vocal harmonies to the PapaSean Johnson sound has produced a more satisfying organic musical entity.
Louise Prevost picks the bass and Doug Collins drums on the beats to create an ambiance not unlike mid-seventies off-the-floor recorded rock.
Movin' On 3:20
The title track kicks off the recording in G major, 4/4 time with a quick moving 12 bar boogie rhythm complaint to an unfaithful lover. Satisfying guitar licks and rhythms are supported by a musical walking bass and fine drumming.
The lyrical guitar lead that brings the last verse is characteristic of PapaSean Johnson's music and offers a clear signpost for the listener to gauge the distance traveled. The cut is so danceable it could be called This Johnson is Jumping.
Ain't No Friend Of Mine 2:45
The more I know people the better I like dogs. In fast 4/4 that feels like 2/2 time, a rolling tom tom punctuates the lyrics with dark propulsive beats. A barking dog plays rhythm to the lead break. When is the last time you heard that in 12 bar rock and roll?
Young And Restless 3:17 (Free mp3, above)
This song is an album highlight. A punchy guitar riff counts in Young and Restless. Off the floor jangly harmonies over a simple lyric has a early '70s live retro sound. The chorus is a memorable ear-worm that features musical Louise Prevost singing harmony.
Count On Me 3:23
A punchy Doug Collins drum riff pounds rock and roll into the blues-flavour of the song list so far. Inventive drumming punctuates throughout another highlight song of "Movin' On".
The lyrics are about promise and the circle of life. Having someone to count on is a blessing.
A well-integrated guitar lead breaks out to grind the melody before the recapitulation of the last verse and chorus.
Still Love That Girl 4:28
Among songs about cars - Little Deuce Coupe, Little Red Corvette, Mustang Sally, you can add the Chevy Impala 2-door.
The record's itinerant theme is touched on, more in the manner of a flight from a lost love rather than running to another in a field of wheat. "Still Love That Girl" features back up harmonies by Louise Prevost in the chorus.
Me And Two 3:33
"Me and Two" features one of the things that makes rock and roll so irresistible, forward propulsion provided by a tight bottom, bass and drums.
A trio is a small orchestra to make sound big and having a drummer that can provide two or three move voices to the mix makes PapaSean Johnson sound larger than they are without over-producing the sound. After all, does the music world need another "Creed"?
Listen To Me Girl 5:27
Starts off strong with a feedback beat and moves right into a pushy short riff in the Petty style.
The theme of "Movin' On" is again thrown into relief by the questions of motivation, responsibility and commitment.
You Can Fly 4:16
Tom tom beats over a guitar riff introduce "You Can Fly". This song features more tasteful harmonies at the chorus. The criminal life, family, life, simplicity, travel and longing feature in the song lyrics.
The harmonies at the chorus are particularly pretty and effective. The fast lead break at the extro is exuberant, expressive and so is in keeping with the rest of the song.
Boogie Man 3:04
The Boogie Man is in walking 12 bar boogie rhythm complete with back up singers to faintly echo the chorus.
This song is slightly ironic and has an updated cheek not unlike Downchild or Waller.
The woman's voice is traditional to the sound and is welcome as a contrast to the work sometimes heard in PapaSean's voice.
Starting Over 4:97
This song could easily dominate the am drive or get you out of bed in the morning. Effectively builds satisfying harmonic tension rising to the chorus.
"I'll never wish my life away, again,
You're the dream I've been waiting for"
After every trial there is release and every cloud has a silver lining in this love song which demonstrates the linear, lyrical nature of PapaSean Johnson harmonies which are longer than is heard in run of schedule rock and roll.
Long Weekend 4:26
Blow this one horse town. The theme of "Movin' On" is wrapped up with this paean to the May Long Weekend road trip.
The entire record is great driving music and "Long Weekend" doesn't disappoint.

"Movin' On" by Papasean Johnson (Blues/Rock Artist from British Columbia, Canada)

"Movin' On" is the latest album from Papasean Johnson. It is an album recorded in the Blues/Rock style of a generation past, with catchy guitar riffs over driving beats coupled with energetic and loud vocals. "Ain't No Friend of Mine" combines elements from 50's rock with a contemporary edge in a rock song that really swings. "Young And Restless" is a grittier song that reminisces about the good old times of youth. For "Still Love That Girl" we find a more traditional blues song that is adapted into the groovy and loud style of Papasean Johnson. Overall, "Movin' On" is filled with a plethora of cool riffs over rhythmic beats that lie somewhere in-between straight-rock and dance-rock. This album is a good find for people who enjoy the likes of ZZ Top or other high tempo Blues/Rock acts.

"We Are Not Kings Here" by Bird to Prey (Folk Artist from Australia)

Bird to Prey's latest released album, "We Are Not Kings Here" gives Indie music sharp songwriting and a new sultry voice Colbie Caillat should be worried about. Singer/songwriter Sarah Turk displays vocals that ooze the same beauty as her contemporaries Nicole Atkins, Feist, and Jenny Lewis. She avoids being too mushy or self-loathing by using a Folk flavor that's just delightful. Aside from the usual piano and clean guitar, she makes use of different instruments such as bells on the charming track "Sing a Lullaby." A recommended track: "Pepper Tree Road" as it features an easy flowing rhythm and catchy melody. "We Are Not Kings Here" is a strong, sweet album that will be enjoyed by fans who take pleasure in listening to a fusion of Country, Folk, Indie, and Blues music.

"Jean Sibelius - Compositions for Piano" by Heidi Saario (Classical Artist from Ontario, Canada)

Heidi Saario has put together a fine group of pieces written by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius in this wonderful collection of Classical Works, "Jean Sibelius - Compositions for Piano." Her playing on this CD is very emotional and is clearly the work of an accomplished pianist. The emotion is brought into these performances in part, by the effective use of dynamics. "Two Rondinos, Op. 68: I and II" are great examples of the feeling put into these works. They have power drawn from the romantic era but the structured beauty of the Classical. Heidi Saario's "Jean Sibelius - Compositions for Piano" is full of beauty and feeling that shines through in this recording.

"Starlite" by Nathaniel Sutton (Rock Artist from Canada)

From the opening and title track of Nathaniel Sutton's "Starlite," there are hints of new wave and post punk via stiff programmed drums and layered baritone vocals but also included is a refreshing and current perspective. By the second song, it's apparent there are few limitations to these artistic arrangements as tasteful harmonica takes the foreground and is followed by an upbeat dance pulse. "Creepy Crawlers" begins with a Crystal Method-type noisy synth and develops into an industrial vocal oriented pop hook. What you will really like about this record is that it keeps you guessing while never feeling out of place with its own identity; it has broad influences but is cohesively assembled to mesh with modern tastes. Expect catchy melodies and curveball instrumentation that's both experimental and welcoming.

"Alegria" by Ioan Harea (Classical Artist from Canada)

A passionate collection of delectable Latin flavors gracefully blended with some smooth and silky Jazz is the latest compilations on "Alegria," by Ioan Harea. As an accomplished violinist, Harea displays his versatility in all genres of music throughout his entire collection of albums. Included in this album are two favorite Latin standards, the memorable "Adios Muchachos" and the bright and lively tune "Tico Tico." The vim and vigor abound on "Joropo" as the guitar harmonizes in spectacular form around the crisp and stunning melody of the violin. Fantastic precision between instruments on "Spain" exhibit the talents of the musicians and their exquisite clarity. On the softer side, "Minor Swing" is somber in quality and expresses heartfelt emotions. The palette of Latin flair on "Alegria," is truly a beautiful assortment of pieces featuring the violin and is a must have addition to your Latin CD collection.

"Christ VS Krishna" by Christ VS Krishna (Rock Artist from Ontario, Canada)

Whether building off a Velvet Underground with Strokes-style riff or plying a decidedly UK-influenced pop-rock sensibility and even experimenting with electronica dance grooves, the 5 songs and self-titled CD, "Christ VS Krishna" proves it has original and substantial musicality. Toronto based Pank Bagga is the singer/songwriter behind the moniker, and his unique sound succeeds not in spite of these different influences but, rather, because he blends them so seamlessly. So, while CD-opener, "Hollywood Torpedo" is raggedly insistent like the best of Strokes songs, and "Lemonade" features the kind of instantly hummable hook worthy of The Cure, neither detracts from the other-worldly dance rhythms of the synth-driven "Sub-crack Waves." The other 2 tracks, "At the End" and "Demons in the Church" lean more to the VU / Strokes influence, particularly in their effortless rhythms and irresistible melodies, but each is stamped with Christ VS Krishna's utterly original vision. As debuts go, Christ VS Krishna's self-titled CD is a memorable and provocative outing that delivers much, but promises even more.

"Hip-Hop Rebirth" by J-double-R (Rap Artist from Ontario, Canada)

The solo debut album by J-double-R, "Hip-Hop Rebirth," is one collection of genuine hip-hop tunes that exudes intelligence and current-day relevance. Powerful beats fused with poetic, politically potent lyrics provides a perfect platform for J-double-R's pure talent to manifest itself. Opening with the gripping title track, listeners are immediately introduced to J-double-R's raw and hard-hitting rap style. "Changes (feat. kissroyale)" is a lovely collaboration focusing on the remarkable change and progression symbolized by the election of Obama as president, and displays unforgettable musical hooks. The slower-paced tune dubbed "Inner Thoughts" stands out as an exceptionally well-written and representative of J-double-R's sheer creative intelligence. Topped off with seasoned production, fans of honest, genuine, and prudent hip-hop will thoroughly enjoy this CD.

"Wild" by Making a Monster (Rock Artist from British Columbia, Canada)

With a unique approach to their alternative / modern rock leanings, Making a Monster's solid debut CD, "Wild," actually recalls an otherwise unexpected influential '90's album as a source of comparison. Even though "Wild" contains plenty of outright full-rock attack - with a decidedly Grunge bent, Making a Monster's sound, sometimes restrained and sometimes crash and burn sonic assault, reminds one of no less an historical document than Nirvana's "Unplugged" album. Like it, "Wild" is redolent with the aura of loose ends and jagged edges, of introspective pleas and scathing fury, and of finely wrought songs that can be both engaging and corrosive. For instance, "Blister" comes across like a straight-on Nirvana tribute, particularly with its discordant, vertigo-inducing guitar fills while the soft ballad "Light," built on a simple acoustic guitar backing, demonstrates leader Scott Auriat's keen melodic sense. Elsewhere, "Wild" bounces between sonic rage as heard on "To Be Young" and pure-pop sensibilities heard on "The Long Road," a split surely reflecting a restless need to explore the ranges and depths of their art. Fans of the group Nirvana will want to hear, the fine "Wild" CD by Making a Monster, as it is fired by a musical vision that also happens to echo back to one of rock's great visionaries.

"Let's Spend the Day Together" by A.M. (Electronic Artist from Ontario, Canada)

Billing its sound as "Electro-acoustic party music," A.M.'s latest CD, "Let's Spend the Day Together" is all that and more. Not to be confused with American singer-songwriter AM, this Toronto-based performer has assembled an album that is well crafted with electronic soundscapes, "found sounds", samples, and last but not least, sheer sonic invention, that is as intriguing as it is musically satisfying. Tying the project together are real-life samples provided by people from all over the world, intended to represent a "snapshot of a day in the life of humankind." It's a concept that unfolds with the ease and naturalness only an accomplished musician / DJ could pull off. Weaving these samples throughout the album, the result is a combustible mix of instrumentals variously built on both synthesizer and acoustic instrumentation, alternately lush and lyrical, primal and orchestral. Each tune is crafted with a keen eye towards melody and dynamics, and utilizes chord and aural changes that keep the proceedings both fresh and forward moving. While A.M.'s latest CD, "Let's Spend the Day Together" is, in fact, an album perfect for a party / club setting, there is so much going on here that only multiple listens will render full appreciation, and ultimately reveal the depth of compositions and the superb musicianship of the artist and his collaborators.

"He Doesn't Like Me...(He Likes My Brother)" by Km Esty (Pop Artist from Toronto, Canada)

"He Doesn't Like Me… (He Likes My Brother)," the new CD-single from accomplished dance-pop songstress Kim Esty, is a delicious slice of Electronica worthy of the singer's clear affinity for the genre's queen bee, Madonna. Boasting 7 different remixes (by Whisper Twins vs SBD and Dr. Octavo Versace), "He Doesn't Like Me…" – in all its permutations, is as catchy as it is danceable. Esty's multi-layered vocals soaring over the thrust of the programmed beats creates a sonic wash perfect for the dance floor. And tossing off the clever hook line like a straight-faced Kirsty MacColl only adds to the fun. Both sly and infectious, and featuring instrumental remixes as well, Kim Esty's CD-single delivers on all fronts.

"Righteous Roots Reggae, Vol. 1" by 5 Rivers Entertainment Inc. (Reggae Artist from Ontario, Canada)

5 Rivers Entertainment Inc. releases the most recent disc "Righteous Roots Reggae, Vol. 1" performed by various artists. As you'd expect from the title, this CD is full of authentic reggae beats and rhythms. Some of the talented male and female artists performing on the CD include Informative Historyman, Dobby Dobson, Odel Johnson, Kingfish Riddim, Spanner Banner, Snatcha Lion, Jahsmin, ChillRootz and L.A. Lallabella from Canada's Moutain Edge Band. The lyrics throughout this entire collection of songs send a message of awareness on many topics. Off beat rhythmic patterns and chanted vocals give spirited grace to "Historyman Chant." "Blazing Jealousy" not only has strong and sincere vocals but the background harmonies add a touch of flavor. "Drives It Home" by Gregg Koval (Rock Artist from Canada)

Gregg Koval has blasted out another great rock CD "Drives It Home." Packed with edgy, guitar driven rock and funky blues, Koval keeps the beat moving and grooving. His vocals are right on the mark and capture the essence of this style of music. "Plenty Enough to Go Around" and "Take What You Need" equally show off the funky and bluesy side of this album. There is also a nice melodic guitar riff on "Wasting the Day Away", with its catchy rhythmic run. Koval has a special talent for making his lyrics fun, as is heard on the song "Alien To Me." Fans of Joe Walsh will definitely appreciate "Drives It Home", a fun CD with energetic rock tunes and rock solid guitar solos.

"Bolo!" by Swaha (Spiritual Artist from Ontario, Canada)

Did you ever just want to pop in a relaxing CD at the end of a long day? If so, Swaha's newest CD "Bolo!" is a great choice to soothe your soul. Taking hints of Indian mantras and spiritual music, Swaha does a magnificent job with their newest disc. Vocalists Dave Stringer and Tara MacLean serve up some excellent performances on this CD. The balance of Dave's vocal tone with Tara's angelic pitch is easy on any listener's ears. As for the music, the raga flare sets the mood for some beautiful sounds on songs like "Shiva Manas Puja" and "Jaya Ram Shri Ram." Another great feature of "Bolo!" is the pop sound that is delivered on many of the songs including "Govinda Gopala." Swaha has taken the mantra/Indian genres to a whole different level, fusing India's musical roots with traditional pop instrumentation. "Bolo!" is a perfect listen for anyone who enjoys Indian music fused with spiritual and uplifting textures.

"MPH" by The Yohawks (Pop Artist from Ontario, Canada)

"MPH" by The Yohawks is a terrific throwback to the 60's R&B with a touch of smooth rock. As a band, their sound is extremely tight and features a strong and well balanced brass section, an element very much missing in current bands. In addition to The Yohawks musicianship, their Motown influenced vocal melodies really shine on this disc and add that distinct "Detroit sound" to "MPH." Stand out songs like "Never Let Go" and "She's Gone" makes the best connection to that familiar 60's R&B sound we all know and love. At first listen "Never Let Go" sounds reminiscent of the group Chicago and the horn section compliments the polished and mature vocals quite well. "She's Gone" is a catchy tune with lyrics that may make you think of a lady you once let get away. Anyone who is a follower of Otis Redding or Chicago will very much enjoy this CD. The sound quality is very professional and evokes those classic tones that we all want to hear back in the mainstream radio days.

"Walk On Water" by Kelti Malone (Pop Artist from Alberta, Canada)

Canadian singer/songwriter Kelti Malone introduces her debut album "Walk On Water," which features original compilations of soft pop music. Malone has created unique arrangements highlighted with smooth piano accompaniment and soft drum beats. Lyrics are insightful and are sung beautifully with distinct accuracy. On the title track "Walk on Water," the piano performs bouncy chord progressions to the sweet and well-balanced vocals. Malone also displays her talent on the piano with a solo performance on "Forever." The production quality is great, as this album is filled with lyrical and moderate rhythms and balanced with soft and soothing orchestrations. Fans of Dido or Norah Jones won't be disappointed when listening to Kelti Malone's collection of soft-pop ballads, "Walk on Water."

"Things Change" by Rick Valiant (Jazz Artist from Canada)

"Things Change," a recently released album by solo artist Rick Valiant, is a wonderful collection of big-band standard favorites of yesteryear. Valliant's vocals gracefully float through the words of each melody as he adds his own personal style to these great tunes. Listeners will enjoy the sound of the grand orchestra as it complements the vocals in swing style. "New York New York" has powerful horns that never overpower the vocals, but make the catchy riff stand out. There is a nice vocal range, seen through how the melody takes a high leap up the register on "Fly Me to the Moon." Delicate and soft, the vocals bring out the sensuous lyrics on "The Way You Looked Tonight." Frank Sinatra or Michael Bublé fans will want to listen to Rick Valiant's "Things Change," as it is an excellent assortment of big band favorites.
