"Music Is Not a Museum" by Ben Plotnick (Folk Artist from Alberta, Canada)

"Music Is Not a Museum" is the latest effort from the extremely talented Canadian fiddler and songwriter Ben Plotnick. Plotnick has written an inventive and fresh collection of songs that features fiddle tunes that fit over the chord changes of modern indie rock styles, creating and pioneering a highly original sound all his own. His style fuses innovation and tradition, preserving the past while giving us a look into the future. Listen to his dancing, intricate fiddle work over the rock riffs of "You're the Only Cure" and "Take 3 (I Love You, Behbeh)," along with the hard-driving "Museum." Check out the more traditional vibe of "August," which features violin and acoustic guitar, and the jazz sensibility of "Emily's Waltz." His passion for writing music and his instrument are clearly evident, providing a spark in a genre that is seldom explored. Another highlight is "Macpherson's Lament," a melodic and tender ballad that includes many lyrical fiddle lines from Plotnick. "The Beginning" is a commanding rocker, whose working title was "The Beginning of the Indie-Rock-Fiddle-Revolution." Perhaps that is what Plotnick has created with "Music Is Not a Museum." This release by Ben Plotnick will be enjoyed by fans of many music genres, particularly those who enjoy multi-genre violinists such as Mark O' Conner.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Big Al Traynor with a GrIndie Award for the CD"Favorite Originals"

"Favorite Originals" by "Big" Al Traynor is a collection of diverse country songs selected from the many works of this musical veteran. Big Al has a timeless voice all his own and his personality is certainly the catalyst for his sound. From boogie woogie to spoken word to patriotic pride, Big Al delivers. The arrangements behind him are all complementary, with familiar sounds presented in a fresh way. The recording nicely represents all aspects of the sound equally, and each song is well polished. If you like a little boogie woogie, check out the opener "Barnyard Boogie". Its quirky lyrics and Surf/Doo-Wop flair satisfies foot tapping adults as well as fun hungry kids. "The Old D 18" is a touching little spoken word story based on a musicians love affair with instruments. Look for a great intimacy in the vocals on this one. "Funny Thing About Pride" wraps things up with a "down home" arrangement and another fun story. If you enjoy spoken word and country music, you'll enjoy this CD.-William

The songs are all well written and filled with lots of melody and huge catchy choruses. The piano is a key instrument in this act as it serves as the catalyst for the arrangements and is the driving force of the sound. Think Ben Folds meets The Beatles. "b" by 3C84 (Pop Artist from Canada)

"b" by 3C84 is a cosmic dream-pop album that contains a great amount of diversity. The atmospheric elements will hypnotize you, while the raw and intimate vocals keep you down here on earth. This band has a great lineup of performers that all deliver. The arrangements are very poppy, leaning toward the British end, and the harmonies are creative, unique, and other-worldly. Each song is approached individually, although the album flows with great consistency. The production value is fantastic. The many layers on each track sound fantastic. One highlight is "Everything Will Happen for a Reason." This track will reel listeners right in by the distinct vocal performance and the signature cosmic pop sound. "Somewhere Off the Coast of Ngc 1275" is powerful and highly cinematic, and will take the breath right out of you. "When I Was Dead" is absolutely haunting, yet extraordinarily beautiful. Listeners that enjoy Brit-like pop with dark and heavy atmospheric elements will not be disappointed with 3C84's "b".
