"Music Is Not a Museum" by Ben Plotnick (Folk Artist from Alberta, Canada)

"Music Is Not a Museum" is the latest effort from the extremely talented Canadian fiddler and songwriter Ben Plotnick. Plotnick has written an inventive and fresh collection of songs that features fiddle tunes that fit over the chord changes of modern indie rock styles, creating and pioneering a highly original sound all his own. His style fuses innovation and tradition, preserving the past while giving us a look into the future. Listen to his dancing, intricate fiddle work over the rock riffs of "You're the Only Cure" and "Take 3 (I Love You, Behbeh)," along with the hard-driving "Museum." Check out the more traditional vibe of "August," which features violin and acoustic guitar, and the jazz sensibility of "Emily's Waltz." His passion for writing music and his instrument are clearly evident, providing a spark in a genre that is seldom explored. Another highlight is "Macpherson's Lament," a melodic and tender ballad that includes many lyrical fiddle lines from Plotnick. "The Beginning" is a commanding rocker, whose working title was "The Beginning of the Indie-Rock-Fiddle-Revolution." Perhaps that is what Plotnick has created with "Music Is Not a Museum." This release by Ben Plotnick will be enjoyed by fans of many music genres, particularly those who enjoy multi-genre violinists such as Mark O' Conner.

"Favorite Originals" by Big Al Traynor (Country Artist from Ontario, Canada)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Big Al Traynor with a GrIndie Award for the CD"Favorite Originals"

"Favorite Originals" by "Big" Al Traynor is a collection of diverse country songs selected from the many works of this musical veteran. Big Al has a timeless voice all his own and his personality is certainly the catalyst for his sound. From boogie woogie to spoken word to patriotic pride, Big Al delivers. The arrangements behind him are all complementary, with familiar sounds presented in a fresh way. The recording nicely represents all aspects of the sound equally, and each song is well polished. If you like a little boogie woogie, check out the opener "Barnyard Boogie". Its quirky lyrics and Surf/Doo-Wop flair satisfies foot tapping adults as well as fun hungry kids. "The Old D 18" is a touching little spoken word story based on a musicians love affair with instruments. Look for a great intimacy in the vocals on this one. "Funny Thing About Pride" wraps things up with a "down home" arrangement and another fun story. If you enjoy spoken word and country music, you'll enjoy this CD.-William

The songs are all well written and filled with lots of melody and huge catchy choruses. "b" by 3C84 (Pop Artist from Canada)

"b" by 3C84 is a cosmic dream-pop album that contains a great amount of diversity. The atmospheric elements will hypnotize you, while the raw and intimate vocals keep you down here on earth. This band has a great lineup of performers that all deliver. The arrangements are very poppy, leaning toward the British end, and the harmonies are creative, unique, and other-worldly. Each song is approached individually, although the album flows with great consistency. The production value is fantastic. The many layers on each track sound fantastic. One highlight is "Everything Will Happen for a Reason." This track will reel listeners right in by the distinct vocal performance and the signature cosmic pop sound. "Somewhere Off the Coast of Ngc 1275" is powerful and highly cinematic, and will take the breath right out of you. "When I Was Dead" is absolutely haunting, yet extraordinarily beautiful. Listeners that enjoy Brit-like pop with dark and heavy atmospheric elements will not be disappointed with 3C84's "b".

“Stars to Sail By” by Shelby Nelson (Pop/Rock Artist from Ontario, Canada)

"Stars to Sail By" is an impressive British pop rock album from singer/songwriter Shelby Nelson. This album is organic by nature and combines an acoustic sound with electric, and elements of electronic. Put it all together and the album displays a great musical layering with the ambience often complimenting the solid arrangements. What's more is that Nelson plays all of the instruments on the album, so you also have the pleasure of appreciating the talents of a multi-talented individual. Nelson made this album with commercial interest, and this album ought to do it. His great song writing and catchy choruses have made "Stars to Sail By" ready for mainstream attention. His vocals are good, with a great Brit pop feel that you'll feel like singing along to. Nelson also produced "Stars to Sail By," and it sounds cleans and, again, ready for the mainstream. "Ever Reborn" has a great arrangement with acoustic and electric guitars, drums, and electronic keyboard work in the background and nice accompanying lyrics. "T.L.D." has a great beat, nice guitar and keyboard work, heartfelt lyrics, and a catchy chorus. With his do-it-yourself attitude, Shelby Nelson has created an admirable album with a great organic sound. Fans of British pop rock should definitely look into this album.

“Kingfish Riddim” by 5 Rivers Entertainment Inc. (Reggae Artist from Ontario, Canada)

"Kingfish Riddim" is the premier roots reggae compilation from an up-and-coming music label entitled 5 Rivers Entertainment Inc. Featured on this album are established, legitimizing reggae artists that include Richie Spice, Richie Stephens, Glen Washington, and Pliers, as well as up-and-coming 5 Rivers artists Jahsmin and ChilliRootz. It appears that 5 Rivers created a single arrangement with piano, horns, and a great reggae vibe and asked various reggae artists to dub their own version of the track. The result is thirteen tracks full of positive and meaningful lyrics, many involving love, that discuss political, spiritual, and cultural aspects of life. This compilation is well-produced, with each track maintaining the raw roots reggae feel while giving the vocal performances a clean sound. "Love for Jah" plays off of the arrangement with spiritual lyrics about love and unity. "A Wha Dis" features a female vocalist that sings about spreading the love through music. "Kingfish Riddim" is a promising compilation from 5 Rivers Entertainment Inc. that lures you with established artists and gives you a feel for what to expect from their own artists and the label in general. Fans of Bob Marley, Wyclef Jean, and roots reggae should pick up this compilation and keep an eye out for more 5 Rivers releases.

RadioIndy is pleased to present  Lenka Lichtenberg & Brian Katz with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Pashtes"

"Pashtes" by Lenka Lichtenberg & Brian Katz is a tremendously creative and musically inspiring CD. The instrumentation on the CD is brilliant - Especially Brian Katz's acoustic guitar work. This professional musical accompaniment provides an effective backdrop for the tremendous vocal performances of Lenka, whose voice provides pitch-perfect vocals in a very smooth and soothing manner. The CD is filled with subtle details of intricate play between the vocals and instruments that demonstrate the care that went into this recording. The production and recording quality provide a crystal clear experience for the listener. "Zing a Gezang" is one of our favorite tracks, with its upbeat catchy tempo and tremendous acoustic guitar work. "Yo, Ikh Gloyb" has a more jazzy feel, with an intricate musical depth provided by countermelodies of a horn section.
